When using these functions you need to have 2 shapes selected before issuing the command. Intersection will keep only the part where the 2 shapes are overlapped. Difference will remove the overlapping part from the first shape placed on the mat. From what I can tell from Exclusion, this will join the two shapes but will not weld, meaning that the two shapes will cut even where they are overlapped. What you can use this for is if you want to add a cut out to the center of something and you want it in a fixed spot so that when you move it around, it will stay in that spot. If you were to use Union in this case that center cut out would weld into the background shape and would not cut. Hope that makes sense :)
Also, with the new upgrade, I have to type each letter seperately to get it to weld. In other words, type a letter, hit the text key again, type another letter, and so on. I then have to slide them together and then click the Union.
If I type a complete word, it will not allow my to weld.
You can type the entire word at once. After you have entered your word, select the word and then hit the Ungroup Text button. This will allow you to then select each letter one at a time. Using you keyboard arrow keys, move the letters so that they are slightly overlapped. Once you have it the way you want it, select all the letters and then go to the Path menu and then Union. For the Difference command, you need 2 overlapping shapes and it is going to take the overlapped portion out of the 1st shape. To experiment with this, place two circles on your mat and have them overlapped but not completely on one another. Select both shapes and then do the Difference command. Sometimes I have where it looks like it didn't work but then I realize that I did not have both shapes selected. I try to use the arrow button and draw a box around both shapes, you must cover both of the shapes entirely otherwise it is not going to select both. Hope that helps!

Difference does nothing in my software.

Anyone have a solution?

What version of the software are you using? It should be 2.3.7 - You should be able to type an entire phrase, if you wanted to.
If you have that version and its not letting you type more than one letter - I would let tech support know...
