Specialty Paper

I am cutting very soft paper with thicknesses of 0.21 and 0.50mm each. The paper is chromatography paper and is designed to wick liquids, sort of like a paper towel with a little more substance. I have placed a mat of two 65# letter size papers and put a sacrificial 20# paper cover over the soft paper. The thickness setting is 3.5 for the 0.21 and 7 for the o.5 papers. I make two passes with tabs set to minimum and medium width. These are the best trial and error settings I can achieve. Is there anyone with experience who can provide better settings? The paper tends to slide and tear. The sacrificial paper cuts very nicely while the mat remains untouched.

I don't know if this will work for you, but I have found that using fusible web (for sewing) under tissue paper cuts the paper beautifully. The trick is not to stream press the fusible web with your iron rather just rub it with warm fingers so that you can remove the fusible web after the cut.

I do this for cutting fabric and it worked so well I tried it with tissue paper and it worked well, too.
