Cutting felt?

We just got a an eCraft cutter on ebay with the express purpose to cut felt. I saw it cut fabric on youtube videos. After importing SVG files and ironing freezer paper onto the felt we found it really needed card stock underneath to fully stabilize. I set it off to make a bunch of small pieces and it went on it's way cutting the paper. Unfortunately there was no evidence of the blade penetrating the felt at all. We set blade pressure up to 8 and set multi cut as high as 5. I even tried removing the blade cover which caused it to tear paper and make a hole in the fabric.

Doing web searches for cutting felt with this machine gives mixed results. I'd like to see this work but if it won't I don't want to waste a lot of time. Any help?

kittyhooch,

The felt we have successfuly cut is the one that comes with a backing and is stiff. You can buy this at local craft stores. Anything to plush, or soft will not cut.

Craft felt is not something I can use. Shouldn't this have been noted on the cutting fabrics? I am a felting artist and I wanted to cut wool felt pieces so they could be put on garments, tote bags, etc. A felting machine won't felt craft felt.

customer242p,

We recommend cutting felt on the eBosser, as it is a machine that cuts on pressure. There are too many fibers in felt to be cut on a die cut machine. We listed the felt as one of the fabrics we cut on the eCraft, because we cut the stiff felt successfully, but it also depends on how the user will utilize the material.
